Stegbone’s Fish Camp is nestled on the banks of the St. John’s River, Stegbone’s is filled with an incredibly tranquil beauty. It is an old-time place first established around 1875 as Seminole Groves growing citrus. It just doesn’t have the distractions of normal daily lives. Instead, you experience starry nights, campfires, sunsets and easy conversations with old and new friends.

Ever wonder where that place is where your dad and grandpa first took you fishin? where natural Florida creates incredible life-time images all day long? where late night around the fire under a blanket of stars you hear jokes, lies and good-natured jabs among real close friends? Look no further. Join us for new memories on the banks of the St. Johns River, 2 mi. north of Welaka, FL, one of The Ten Best Florida Fish Camps.

Forty miles of the Ocala National Forest and other undevelopable land lie to the west across the river. Expect to see all sorts of wildlife: eagle, manatee, alligator, turtle, red fox, wild turkey, great blue heron, pelican, egret, owl, osprey…they all look in. We are in the backyard of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail and the Bartram Trail.

The St. John’s River provides excellent fishing. Nicknamed ‘The Bass Capitol of the World’, there are many tournaments in the spring & fall. Favored fish besides bass include many of the bream family, copperhead, shell cracker, red bellies, crappy and bluegill.

Florida requires a fishing license for both freshwater and saltwater.

This place is the best!! So peaceful and the fishing is great! Love sitting out at night on the river or around the fire pit. Such a great escape from busy city life and remember how quiet life can be. I’m always so relaxed after a visit to Stegbone’s. The fishing is great too! It’s awesome I can just pack up my boat, clothes, food, and dog and hit the road. They have everything else I need! I almost hate to write a review because I don’t want it to get busier. It’s a true gem of a find.
