For Paranormal Enthusiasts; The Devil’s Tree in Oak Hammock Park Port St. Lucie

This park is great for people of all ages with a ton of things to do. Its beautiful landscaping and clean facilities make the perfect place to spend your day. However, there is a dark side to the area – the park is linked to Florida’s first serial killer, Gerard John Schaefer. Gerald, aka Killer Cop, the Hangman and the Butcher of Blind Creek, was convicted of the 1972 murder and mutilation of two teenage girls at Oak Hammock Park. He is suspected of up to twenty-six further murders. He used to tie his victims to a tree located at the park, which later developed the name of The Devil’s Tree. There have been numerous attempts to cut down the tree with no success. Visitors have reported seeing ghostly figures hanging from the tree branches. Many say that if you place your ears close to the tree’s bark, you can actually hear the sound of children screaming. He was assassinated on December 3, 1995 at the Florida State Prison.
