 Palmetto Historical Park

Palmetto Historical Park

The Palmetto Historical Park is a great place to learn about the history of the area. The Historic Park is located at 515 10th Ave W, Palmetto, FL 34221. The Park includes Palmetto’s first Post Office (1880), a cottage museum, a historic one room schoolhouse, a small military museum and a reproduction chapel representative of area churches. There is also a chapel, Military Museum and the 1914 Carnegie Library. Palmetto Historical Park is operated by the Palmetto Historical Commission, Manatee County Clerk of Circuit Court, the Manatee County Board of County Commission, and the City of Palmetto. While the Carnegie Library is accessible during regular open hours, a Guided Tour is necessary to see the other historical buildings. Tours are free and held at 2pm every day that the Park is open.

 Felts Audubon Preserve

Felts Audubon Preserve is the perfect place for bird lovers and is opened from sunrise until sunset – 7 days week. The Felts Audubon Preserve is located at 4600 24th Ave E, Palmetto, FL 34221. This 27-acre nature preserve was donated by Otis & Anita Felts to the Manatee County Audubon Society when Otis passed away in 2002. His dream was that it would never be developed. They are keeping those promises. Improvements continue including new footpaths, an enhanced bird blind for comfortable wildlife observation and excellent photography. Small ponds with open fields exist to attract a wider variety of wildlife, especially migratory and nesting birds and colorful butterflies. Bring the kids and teach them about their environment, stroll through the forested area, relax on the benches, take photos and simply commune with nature.

Blackstone Park is a Sports & Recreation venue in Palmetto, Florida offering athletic fields, courts, a skate park & picnic pavilions. The park hours are from sunrise to sunset unless otherwise posted. The Skatepark hours are from 10-9 weekends/no school, and 2:30 – 9 during school year. Amenities include; batting cages, Benches, Bike Racks, Bleachers, Concessions, Little League Fields, Pavilions, Picnic Tables, Playground, Racquetball (2 courts), Rest Rooms , Skate Park, Recycle Containers, Regulation Soccer Fields (lighted) , Softball Fields (lighted), Trash Receptacles, and Water Fountains. Buffalo Creek Park is located at 7550 69th Street East, Palmetto, FL 34221. This park is equipped with lighted baseball fields, football fields, soccer fields and little league fields. As well as a dog park for small and large dogs, batting cages, 3.4 mile paved walking trail and playgrounds. You’ll find that the benches, bleachers, picnic tables, restrooms and concessions are clean and well taken care off. Pavilions are available to rent. The Manatee County Agricultural Museum is located at 1015 6th Street West, Palmetto, Florida 34221. It is open Tuesday–Friday 10:00–12:00 and 1:00–4:00 as well as the first and third Saturdays of the month. The Hall of Fame is a permanent exhibit that showcases the men and women who have made a significant impact on the agricultural community of Manatee County. The Core Exhibits of the Ag Museum focus on the rich agricultural history of Manatee County surrounding the many commodities that the county specializes in such as livestock, vegetables and fruits, citrus, horticulture, and more. Sutton Park is a landmark in Palmetto, Florida and is known for it’s event venues, festivals, concerts, tours of historic buildings, interactive exhibits, & educational events. Sutton Park is located at 1036 6th St W, Palmetto, FL 34221. This is a favorite for many of the locals as a place to find entertainment and local events.

Emerson Point Preserve

Emerson Point Preserve is located at the western end of Snead Island in Palmetto, Florida. One of my favorite places in Manatee County, the Emerson Point Preserve is situated on 365 acres of gorgeous plant preserves and lush wildlife. There’s even several Native American mounds in the Portavant Mound Site to view. The address is 5801 17th St W, Palmetto, FL 34221. To get there, just cross over the bridge to Snead Island and follow to the end of the road. Park hours are: 7am to 6pm daily.

 

If you are interested in living the island life in Florida, Snead Island is a great place to be. The island itself is primarily residential, however there are two private dry boat storage facilities, a bait shop and the country club. As well as Emerson Point Preserve on the island.  The majority of Snead Island in Manatee County is wildlife and nature’s beauty.
