The Aerospace Center for Excellence is replenishing the aviation industry by creating Aerospace Professionals through our robust scholarship program.

THE FUTURE OF AVIATION STARTS HERE!

SUN ‘n FUN and the Florida Air Museum support year round educational programs. These programs happen at the Aerospace Center for Excellence or A.C.E. Fourteen (14) buildings and a Boeing 727 Classroom form the Aerospace Center for Excellence (ACE). This model is the most unique learning platform in the United States where each building serves a common function of educating and inspiring the next generation of aerospace professionals while honoring the past.

The mission at SUN n FUN is to preserve and enhance the future of flight through world-class events, inspiring and educating people of all ages. Our Guiding Principles are based on respecting and honoring the past, building teams, caring, counting and communicating, appreciating volunteers and staff, being accountable, professional and goal-oriented, doing what you do best, better, ensuring quality before quantity, having the courage to take a leadership role and, last but not least, contributing to the communities we serve.

Plan Your Visit at the Florida Air Museum

When visiting the Florida Air Museum and the Aerospace Discovery Center at Sun N Fun in Lakeland, Florida you will want to reserve at least one to three hours. Each of the exhibition buildings are accessible and have parking available. Minimal walking is required, and wheelchairs are available. Families are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy under our covered pavillion. Vending machines are available for purchasing bottled soft drinks.

Aircrafts

The Museum displays a wide variety of vintage aircraft, ultralights, experimental homebuilts, air racers, military, aerobatic and factory-built aircraft from all eras.

The aircraft are supplemented by an interesting collection of engines from 1909 to the present day.

Exhibits

The Museum exhibits include the Howard Hughes Aviation Collection, Florida Aviation History, Florida Aviation Hall of Fame, Lakeland in WWII, Rockets and High Speed Flight, Air Racing and Aerobatics, Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart Artifacts, multiple Flight Simulators and so much more. Our museum is truly a one of a kind experience the entire family will enjoy.

Restoration

The Buehler Restoration Skills Center included in the admission to Aerospace Discovery is open Monday-Friday and only when volunteers are actively working on aircraft restoration projects. These aircraft are usually being prepared for display in the museum or perhaps even a return to flight! Museum visitors may observe their work and talk with these talented craftsmen about the current project underway. Please check with the Museum receptionist regarding hours of operation during your planned visit.The Buehler Restoration Skills Center is staffed by volunteers, please call ahead of your visit to determine that days hours of operation.

Aerospace Attic

Aerospace Discovery at The Florida Air Museum Library and Archives houses a collection of more than 6,000 aviation books, 27,000 magazines and 40,000 photos, providing the basis for a future historical research center. Although not regularly open to Museum visitors due to extremely limited space, those with a particular interest must contact the museum in advance to arrange access for research. Gifts of Flight

The gift shop features a large selection of aviation-themed merchandise including unique apparel, t-shirts, jewelry, gifts, books and pilot supplies. The gift shop, located inside Florida Air Museum, does not require admission to visit. Gifts of Flight features a large selection of aviation-themed merchandise including SUN ‘n FUN, When Pigs Fly South, and other unique aviation apparel including jewelry, gifts, books and pilot supplies. Did you know that “Unfreeze your bird” The History of SUN ‘n FUN is only available at Gifts of Flight?
