Western wear originated in the 18th century. It is a style of clothing that’s inspired by Native American designs, Spanish cattlemen, American settlers, Cowboys, Rodeo, Folk designs, and Immigrants. This type of clothing and style typcially stands out from yuor day to day basic wear. You’ll notice; yoked shirts and jackets, pearl snap closures, denim jeans with design, piping trim, embroidered designs, and fringe. Cowboy boots and hats are accessories that add the final touch to the outfit. Although clothing styles have changed through the years, the concept remains the same. Taste of History: Here’s a few history facts; Pearl-snap shirts were created to allow a rancher to easily refasten the shirt if it gets snagged on barbed wire. Rockmount Ranch Wear of Denver, Colorado made the first commercially available western shirts with snaps in the 1940s. Buckskins are often trimmed with a fringe to allow the garment to shed rain, and to dry faster when wet because the fringe acted as a series of wicks to disperse the water. No one really knows exactly who originally invented the cowboy boot but, most people will agree that the first pair of cowboy boots was made by a shoemaker in either Texas or Kansas. Either way, it was orginated in the USA – or so they say. Most 1800s cowboy boots were made with cowhide and had rounded or square toes – the pointed toes common in modern cowboy boot fashion didn’t start to appear until the 1940s. One of the most grievous cowboy faux pas you can commit is placing your cowboy hat on a bed. At best, putting a hat on a bed is said to invite mischievous bad luck or foretell an argument; at worst, it’s a premonition of injury or death. Cowboy hat code: Hats are removed to eat, enter a home or private office, and to address the flag during the National Anthem. When being introduced to a lady, remove or tip your hat—but never to a man. (That’s an insult.)
