Social Security is a program that provides financial security for Americans throughout their lives. Almost every American worker will get this income. Benefits usually starting at age 65, but reduced-rate benefits may be available as early as age 62 for retirement. For individuals who are totally and permanently disabled there is support provided with disability benefits. The SSA also provides benefits to surviving widows, widowers, minor children, and some disabled adult children as well as family and divorced spouses. Social Security also offers other services, such as benefit calculators to estimate future payments and the ability to notify Social Security and Medicare to cancel benefits for someone who has died. Most U.S. citizens can receive Social Security benefits while living outside the U.S..
