Screen Enclosures in Florida

Updated: 07/01/2024

Screen enclosures are very common in Florida for numerous reasons. First – due to pool safety requirements. Florida’s Swimming Pool Safety Act of 2000 requires that all homes with a pool have a barrier ( enclosure ) to keep out children and pets. It must be at least four feet tall and cannot have any gaps large enough for a child or pet to enter. You must also be able to lock the enclosure as well. They also provide a great barrier to bugs and debris while filtering some of the harsh sunlight and UV rays out. A permit is required with the installation of any enclosure in Florida. It is considered an addition and requires drawings prepared by a Florida registered professional architect or engineer.
