Add these historic sites to your Florida Bucket List
Although there are thousands of historic sites in Florida, there are only 47 that are considered National Historic Landmarks. A Historical site means an object, building or structure that has historical or cultural significance. A structure must be over 50 years old and have regional or statewide significance to be considered historic. Florida is filled with history – and for good reason. Florida was added to the United States in 1845, but Archaeologists believe that Paleo-Indians and the Early Archaic people arrived in Florida more than 14,000 years ago. These populations are believed to be the ancestors of the Seminole, Creek and Apalachee people who lived in Florida in the 17th and 18th centuries. Many of historic districts and communities in Florida attract heritage tourism from all parts of the globe.
