Drive in Theaters date back to the late 1930’s when the first drive in movie theater was built in Miami. Called, the Loew drive-in, and then eventually the Miami Drive-In it was opened for business on February 18, 1938. The first movie shown was starred William Gargan in “Fury and the Woman”. They became a huge hit. By the mid-’50s, there were more than 150 in the sunshine state. The Miami Drive In operated until April 5, 1979 when it finally shut its doors.
