Babson Park Florida

Babson Park is a small community located in Polk County, Florida. Babson Park is well known for Webber International University. Webber University was originally established as a women’s college. Their exclusive purpose was teaching women about business. Webber was named after the granddaughter, Camilla Grace Webber of Grace Knight and Roger W. Babson who founded the University in April of 1927. Webber University has a lot of history in Babson Park and still today, continues to propagate the ideals envisioned by its founders, which was built upon a solid legacy of experience and knowledge, Webber University will prepare tomorrow’s business leaders to meet the challenges of the future by instilling a desire of innovative thought and creative accomplishment.

Roger Babson born on July 6, 1875 in Massachusetts, was a very good businessman and Entrepreneur. Before founding Webber University, he also founded Babson College in Massachusetts and later the defunct Utopia College, in Eureka, Kansas. Babson wrote more than forty books on economic and social problems and also wrote hundreds of magazine articles and newspaper columns. On September 5, 1929, he gave a speech saying, “Sooner or later a crash is coming, and it may be terrific.” Later that day the stock market declined by about 3%. This became known as the “Babson Break”. The Wall Street Crash of 1929 and the Great Depression soon followed. Babson was the Prohibition Party’s candidate for President of the United States in 1940. He lost the election to incumbent President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Babson died in 1967.
