Like many communities within Bay County, the city was severely damaged by a Category 5 Hurricane on October 10, 2018. Hurricane Michael made landfall near Lynn Haven as the 3rd strongest hurricane to ever make landfall in the contiguous United States. It was also the first category 5 hurricane to strike the US since 1992 when Hurricane Andrew devastated parts of Florida. Hurricane Michael displaced thousands of Lynn Haven residents.
